Shark Tank Episode Details
The Shark Tank Pitch
Stella Valle appeared on Shark Tank Season 4 as an innovative jewelry company created by former West Point cadets and Army officers Ashley Jung and Paige Dellavalle, who developed a unique line of fashion accessories designed to 'perfectly marry masculine and feminine characteristics' by combining their military edge with elegant feminine design elements. The sister entrepreneurs had served their country with distinction, coming from a military family where all four sisters were involved in the armed forces, and they started Stella Valle in 2009 after completing their military service as a way to express their feminine side after years of wearing army fatigues during active duty.
Their jewelry line featured strong geometric shapes and military-inspired design elements that reflected their background while appealing to consumers who appreciated bold, distinctive accessories that stood out from traditional jewelry offerings. The business had achieved early success with placement in prestigious retailers including Bloomingdale's and Henri Bendel, as well as numerous smaller boutiques, demonstrating market acceptance for their unique aesthetic and brand positioning that combined military precision with fashion-forward design.
At the time of their Shark Tank appearance, Stella Valle had generated $37,000 in sales during their first year and were on track to achieve $80,000 in their current year, with Bloomingdale's having invited them to conduct three trunk shows to test market demand for their products. Their production costs ranged from $3 to $45 per piece while retail prices started at $96, providing healthy profit margins that supported their growth plans, and they sought $150,000 for 25% equity to expand internationally and replicate their successful trunk show model across multiple retailers.
The entrepreneurs emphasized their commitment to giving back to the military community by donating a portion of proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project, adding a philanthropic element that resonated with their brand story and military background.
Where Are They Now?
Stella Valle successfully secured investment on Shark Tank when Lori Greiner and Mark Cuban partnered to offer $150,000 for 35% equity, with Greiner recognizing the potential for QVC sales and retail expansion while Cuban brought his business expertise to help scale the brand beyond its current boutique positioning. The other Sharks declined for various reasons: Kevin O'Leary couldn't justify the $600,000 valuation and went out, Robert Herjavec didn't believe in the trunk show strategy despite recognizing their brand-building efforts, and Daymond John admitted he 'just didn't like the jewelry' despite acknowledging their 'amazing story' as military veterans turned entrepreneurs.
The partnership with Greiner and Cuban initially proved highly successful, with Lori immediately fulfilling her promise to get Stella Valle onto QVC while also pursuing dual retail strategies that included placement in major retailers like Target, which developed its own line of their jewelry and brought the military-inspired brand into mainstream consumer markets. The business experienced significant growth following the Shark Tank investment, expanding their retail presence to include Jared Jewelers and establishing a strong Amazon presence, while also opening their own flagship retail store in New Hope, Pennsylvania in November 2019, originally intended as a holiday pop-up but made permanent due to strong performance.
However, despite initial success that reached annual revenues of $5 million by 2022, the business ultimately could not sustain long-term viability in the competitive jewelry market. Ashley Jung left the company in September 2022 to become a Vice President at LMI, a governmental consulting firm, and the partners made the difficult decision to shutter the business in April 2022.
As of 2024, Stella Valle is permanently closed, with Paige now married and co-founding Brightwood Skin, a New Jersey skincare boutique, while remaining products are still available on Amazon until inventory is depleted, representing another example of how even successful Shark Tank partnerships cannot always guarantee long-term business sustainability in challenging retail markets.
