The Shark Tank Pitch

Major Robert Dyer, a Marine Corps officer and professor at the U.S. Naval Academy, brought his military-inspired energy drink to Season 4, seeking $75,000 for 10% equity.

Dyer developed Ruck Pack while serving in Afghanistan, recognizing that he and his fellow Marines needed an energy booster without the crash associated with traditional sugary, caffeinated drinks. The nutritional energy drink contained essential vitamins and minerals, positioning itself as a healthier alternative to energy shots on the market.

Despite having no current inventory, Dyer had impressive sales of over 15,000 bottles in a month and had 80,000 bottles on order. His professional presentation and compelling military backstory impressed the Sharks, leading to a deal with Kevin O'Leary and Robert Herjavec for $150,000 in exchange for 20% equity.

Where Are They Now?

Ruck Pack initially experienced tremendous success after the Shark Tank deal, with sales skyrocketing from $35,000 to nearly $500,000 in the year following the show. The company secured placement in Walgreens, a major national retailer, and even sponsored a jet that appeared at air shows across the country.

However, rapid growth brought significant challenges, including leadership instability and operational difficulties. Major Dyer stepped down as CEO in 2014, passing control to Derek Herrera, a Marine Special Operations veteran, who unfortunately caused damage to the company's bottom line.

The company went through multiple leadership changes and manufacturing partnerships, struggling with inventory and availability issues. As of 2022, while Dyer still lists himself as CEO, the company has faced ongoing challenges with product availability, though they have intermittently had products available for sale on their website. (12-19-2025) Update - We've found since it's been acquired and absorbed by C&H Precision, the company has been going more and more silent on Social Media and their website was not working.

Therfore we are marking it as out of business.
