The Shark Tank Pitch

Entrepreneur Trina Barkouras appeared on Shark Tank Season 6 seeking $50,000 for 10% equity in Hoppy Paws, valuing her holiday-themed stamping kit company at $500,000. The inspiration for Hoppy Paws came from a cherished family tradition that began over 20 years earlier when Trina created an Easter Bunny "paw print trail" for her children that wound through the house and ended at their Easter baskets.

The innovative kits contained biodegradable stamping powder, a mixing tray, and footprint stamps that allowed parents to create magical holiday experiences for their children by making various themed footprint trails throughout their homes. The company's product line included reindeer and elf prints for Christmas, bunny trails for Easter, monster footprints for Halloween, stork prints for expectant parents, and leprechaun prints for St.

Patrick's Day, with each kit retailing for $6.99 and costing approximately $2.00 to manufacture. Despite being in business for just 90 days at the time of filming, Trina had already invested $105,000 of her own money into the venture, including $50,000 for the first production run, demonstrating her commitment to turning her family tradition into a commercially viable business that would help other families create similar magical holiday memories.

Where Are They Now?

During her Shark Tank presentation, Trina delivered an emotional pitch while wearing antlers, sharing her difficult background of being emancipated at age 16 and building her business from nothing, which impressed the sharks with her determination and entrepreneurial spirit. Despite initial skepticism about the seasonal nature of the product, Trina clarified that her kits were designed for year-round use across multiple holidays, and the sharks were particularly impressed by the safe, biodegradable nature of the stamping powder.

After Kevin O'Leary and Mark Cuban made a playful joint offer of $10,000 ($5,000 each), Barbara Corcoran stepped in with a serious offer of $100,000 for 50% equity, but Trina successfully negotiated the deal down to $100,000 for 49% equity, allowing her to retain majority control while gaining Barbara's expertise and connections in the retail market. Following the successful Shark Tank deal, Hoppy Paws initially experienced growth and was featured in a Beyond the Tank episode, with the product launching at Target stores during Halloween 2016.

However, despite the initial boost from the show and Barbara's guidance, the company struggled to achieve sustainable long-term growth in the competitive seasonal product market. The business faced challenges with inventory management, seasonal sales fluctuations, and customer complaints about the product's cleanup difficulties, ultimately leading to the company's closure in February 2019 when Trina decided to shut down operations and our latest research shows the business is not operating anymore.
