Shark Tank Episode Details
The Shark Tank Pitch
Shane Cianciolo and Nathan Buffett pitched Corks Away on Season 4 of Shark Tank, seeking $105,000 for 20% equity in their wine cruise business. Corks Away offered guided wine-themed boat cruises, taking guests out on the water for an experience centered around wine tasting, socializing, and scenic views.
The concept targeted wine enthusiasts looking for unique experiential entertainment beyond the standard tasting room. The entrepreneurs had built a following in their local market and believed the concept could be expanded to additional waterfront cities.
The Sharks found the experience-based business model difficult to scale nationally and had concerns about weather dependency, limited operating seasons, and the capital required to expand the fleet and permits. All five Sharks declined to invest.
Where Are They Now?
Corks Away did not receive a deal on Shark Tank. The wine cruise business faced the inherent challenges of scaling an experience-based, location-dependent service: limited operating seasons, high capital costs for vessels and licensing, and difficulty replicating the concept in new markets.
The company was unable to achieve the growth needed to sustain operations over the long term and ultimately closed down.
