Shark Tank Episode Details
The Shark Tank Pitch
Susan Knapp pitched A Perfect Pear seeking $500,000 for 15% equity in her gourmet pear-based products business. She presented award-winning pear jellies and sauces that had generated over $700,000 in sales across 650 stores with $100,000 in pending orders she couldn't fulfill without financing.
Despite her net profit being only 2%, the sharks engaged in a bidding war. Kevin O'Leary offered $500,000 for 70%, Daymond John offered $500,000 for 51%, and Robert Herjavec joined Kevin Harrington to offer $500,000 for 50% equity.
Knapp accepted the Herjavec-Harrington deal for 50%, making her an equal partner in her own company.
Where Are They Now?
The deal with Robert Herjavec and Kevin Harrington never closed after filming. Despite the setback, Susan Knapp leveraged the Shark Tank exposure to continue building her business with solid sales momentum.
Kevin Harrington helped her secure placement on HSN (Home Shopping Network), and her products expanded into major retailers including Whole Foods and Lunardi's. She was generating over $80,000 per month shortly after the show aired.
However, after a brief period of growth, Susan ultimately decided to close A Perfect Pear in February 2010, just over a year after her Shark Tank appearance. The business faced challenges with scaling production and maintaining quality while meeting increased demand from the show's exposure.
